THE GOODWOOD ESTATE
Goodwood is England’s greatest sporting estate. Seat of the Dukes of Richmond for over three centuries, the family has always welcomed their friends and guests to share in their love of sport. Hunting, shooting, cricket, horseracing, golf, flying and motor racing have all been introduced by enthusiastic family members.
Goodwood has been at the heart of the English summer season for at least two hundred years. It hosts the internationally famous Festival of Speed, the ‘Glorious’ Qatar Goodwood Festival and Goodwood Revival, three of the largest events in the British sporting and social calendar.
Within its 12,000 acres, Goodwood is home to one of the largest lowland organic farms in England, a famous Battle of Britain airfield, a historic racecourse and motor circuit, two golf courses and one of the oldest cricket grounds in the country, all centred around the magnificent Goodwood House.

About our microbiome appeal:
The gut microbiome is an incredibly exciting, emerging area of science. We know the vast ecosystem of bacteria, fungi and viruses in our gut affects our wider health and susceptibility to all sorts of disease – but researchers have only just begun to scratch the surface of how to harness its life-changing and even life-saving potential.
Bowel Research UK is raising £250,000 to invest in world-class innovative research into the gut microbiome during 2024 / 2025. This equates to one PhD and three small proof of principle grants, but the more money we raise, the more research we will be able to fund in this important area.
Scientists believe that, from birth, the gut microbiome is linked to virtually every aspect of our health. From the wellbeing of our gut itself, to impacts on diseases like bowel cancer and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the strength of our immune system and even has links to our central nervous system and brain function. However, right now there is more that we don’t know about the microbiome than what is known for certain. This means research is essential to enable scientists to address the gaps in our knowledge and begin to develop revolutionary treatments into bowel cancer, IBD and other diseases.
